Successive Birth

The successive and progressive incarnation of souls is a natural law governing the existence and transit of souls in the visible dimension of Creation. As physical bodies are perishable and die over time, souls alternate existence in earthly life with time intervals in the heavens of eternity. The time between dying and being born in a new body is longer or shorter, suffering or happy, depending on the moral / spiritual state of each soul. When born again, the soul animates a new character, according to the purposes of the Eternal God.

The soul arises in Creation when it is generated by the Eternal God at the time the universe was created. Separating from the Divine bosom, it plunges into a deep sleep, whose awakening will be to the life of intimate communion with the Creator. The rudiments of the law of successive incarnation can be found in some biblical accounts. It is not a doctrinal principle, but a law of God, for all Creation is subject to progressivity. Such a law does not appear in Scripture as applicable to the reality of ordinary people, since at the time of writing man had no intellectual and scientific development to envision such a possibility.

The successive incarnation of souls explains and underlies the existence of the history of the People of God in many periods intended for their instruction and learning. Soul gifts cannot be developed in their many aspects by utilizing only the short span of a lifetime. The repetitive birth of souls gives meaning to the existence of the Holy Book itself and the fulfillment of its promises. Without the law of progressive incarnation, the generation of a present tense would have no connection with past generations, leaving no solution of continuity. The Scriptures state, “Thou shalt rise up in thy seed,” pointing out that the soul will continue to exist in the future, being born into members of successive generations.

It is indispensable not to confuse successive incarnation with reincarnation, the spiritualist principle that guides reincarnationist sects. In successive incarnation, at some point in its history, the soul is saved by Divine action. In the secular concept of reincarnation, the soul finds its salvation on its own, which is a contradictory principle to the general meaning of the Holy Scriptures.

As the general law of the universe, the successive incarnation of souls answers all doubts concerning the existence of the soul, its origin, trajectory and future. Without considering such a principle, any theological teaching is incomplete and irrational. The Incarnation magnifies the soul and the Eternal God Himself, making man understand his eternity in time and space, ceasing to be just a material body, living for a time, to assume that it is of a Divine nature and will exist eternally.
