Hell is a place invisible to human eyes where the transgressing souls park for a time and receive punishment for disobedience and revolt against the Creator and his laws. It can be said that this is a place of torture, but also of correction and reflection on sins. This is what is meant by the words of Christ when he teaches in the parable “The rich and Lazarus.” The rich man, after physical death, found himself in the infernal regions for not caring for the beggar Lazarus, who lay at the door of his house, full of wounds. In hell the rich man was very much alive, in possession of his conscience and memories. He suffers, asks for help from Abraham, and reflects on the life of indifference and selfishness he had in his last earthly passage.
“The Rich and Lazarus” is a parable that puts an end to the dogma created by classical Christian theology that the soul, after physical death, would be asleep awaiting judgment, a concept that finds no coherence with the Sacred Teachings. The soul loses its consciousness as soon as the body dies, as if asleep, but then awakens on the other side of Creation, going to a place of joy or suffering, according to the works it has done, for its faith or lack of faith. in the eternal God.
The existence of hell is of a relative nature and its destruction testified in the Christian Scriptures in the period of Revelation. Hell cannot be eternal, for only the Creator possesses Absolute Eternity. If hell is not eternal, the souls that go to this place will not be there forever. After an uncertain period in hell, the soul will leave it to be subjected to a new physical existence (incarnation), where it will resume its walk towards the Light, now with a conscience marked by suffering in this place of torment.
Eternal hell is an absurd thesis that one should not listen to. It is incompatible with the goodness, mercy, and eternity of the God of Israel. We are bad men and we know how to forgive our children for the wrong things they do. Why would Heavenly Father, who is all love and mercy, throw one of his children into hell for eternity? God is not the absurd. God’s Word is the light that keeps us from hell and death. The Lord is the Light of the world!
